A Message From Our Board Chair & President / CEO
What a difference a year makes! This time last year, our terminals were quiet with more than two-thirds of our passengers staying home. Today, passengers are returning to the skies in significant numbers and the path forward for air travel recovery is coming into focus.
The 2020-21 Sustainability Report tells the story of our recovery from two perspectives: the short term and the long term. In the short term, we are focused on continued health and safety, sustainable infrastructure development, and economic growth. The goal is to continue to pursue capital improvement projects that enhance the customer experience and maximize the potential of our 661-acre campus. This extends to the planned launch of construction of the long-awaited Terminal 1, which will provide thousands of well-paying jobs, and our ongoing campaign to restore air service routes lost during the pandemic.
The short-term strategy will help provide the means for us to realize longer-term benefits in the form of a more diverse and inclusive workplace, improved transportation options to and from the airport, cleaner air and water, energy independence and climate change resilience.
If anything, the pandemic has taught us that we can no longer go back to business as usual. In 2020, we said farewell to some long-time Board members whose contributions helped us begin to envision a sustainable future. And we welcomed new Board members brimming with fresh ideas and a renewed commitment to our customers and the community.
The imprint of the COVID-19 experience will forever remain with us as we work collaboratively toward a sustainable future that benefits everyone.
